We believe that social movement-based education and collaborative learning are an essential part of systemic change, and provide a range of opportunities for volunteers, students and the wider community.
For community
Our event-based workshops and training use strengths-based and peer-to-peer learning frameworks and develop understanding through group activities and facilitated conversations. We make this learning interactive, nuanced and fun, catering to a range of learning styles, knowledge levels, and personality types.
For students
We offer* a 3 to 6 months work-integrated learning program, designed for participants to gain knowledge and skills in climate action and sustainable community development practice.
The program is coordinated by a qualified social worker and accredited community development worker, in collaboration with a network of education providers and across grassroots, non-government, not-for-profit community and environmental organisations.
We believe that social movement-based education and collaborative learning are essential parts of systemic change. The program complements social work and community development higher education curricula that may have a limited focus on ecological justice, and aims to provide formal and informal learning opportunities through direct involvement in the wider environmental movement.
Social work and community services students are encouraged participate in the program via the field education / fieldwork / practicum component of their professional qualifying degree (all requirements as set out by the education providers and accrediting bodies are applicable).
What our program alumni say:
The Green Social Work Training Program provided me with an opportunity to look into the relationship between people and the environment as well as the interdependence among people. Being part of the program helped me to gain more knowledge in initiating, planning, implementing, and evaluating a community development event to raise awareness of reducing waste and making the most of resources. This experience inspired me to live a more sustainable life and to engage in the community development in a eco-friendly manner.
(Jessie Yu Li)
The Green Social Work program offers both theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary environmental issues that in-class lectures fail short to set out. The Hub offers direct professional supervision and hands-on experience on different programs and services. I got to enjoy my learning experience while building my professional network with like-minded individuals who are eager for change, one step at a time. Most importantly, I got to answer the greatest predicament that humanity is ever faced as a social worker. The climate crisis is a social crisis. The principle of intersectionality factors that humans’ negative actions to their environment are a direct threat to humanity itself.

*Program availability is dependent on current projects. We want to make sure students are able to access a wide range of opportunities that contribute towards learning outcomes in a meaningful way.
